The Barents Winter Games is a unique sporting event that brings together young athletes from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The Games are part of the Barents Cooperation, promoting friendship, cultural exchange, and collaboration across borders in the Barents region. With a wide range of sports and a strong emphasis on inclusion and community, the Barents Winter Games have become a highly anticipated highlight for sports enthusiasts in the region. 

In 2025, the Barents Winter Games will take place in Alta, a city renowned for its stunning natural surroundings and strong sports traditions. The event runs from Friday, March 28, to Sunday, March 30, welcoming participants and spectators from across the Barents region. 

Alta Municipality Opens the Celebration 

Alta Municipality will host the opening ceremony, a grand event on Friday evening. The ceremony marks the beginning of a weekend filled with excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments.

Friday, March 28: 

  • Arrival until 3:00 PM 

  • Competitions from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM 

  • Opening Ceremony at 8:00 PM 

Saturday, March 29: 

  • Competitions from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM 

  • Get Together at 8:00 PM 

Sunday, March 30: 

  • Competitions from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM 

  • Departure from 2:00 PM
