  • There is a strong tradition of archery in the Cap of the North countries.

    When Barents Summer Games 2019 was held in Murmansk, Russia participated in Archery for the first time with athletes from Arkhangelsk.

    Both girls and boys compete in various disciplines and at different distances.

    The exchange between the countries has always been good and it is growing every year.

    Age Group: 15 - 25 Years old. Older athletes can be exepted.

    Team structure: 12 athletes (6 M and 6 W), one coach, one leader and one referee from each country.

    Classes:

    • Recurve 70 (19-25 yo): 2 men senior, 2 women senior.

    • Recurve 50 (15-18 yo): 2 men junior, 2 women junior.

    • Compund 50 (15-25 yo): 2 men senior, 2 women senior.

Also Parasport

  • Boccia is one of the sport reserved for Parasport athletes.

    Boccia was part of Barents Games for the first time in Oulu 2015.

    Age group: Over 15 years old.

    Team Structure: 8 athletes with companions, 2 coaches and one referee pr country.

    Classes: 2 teams with 4 athletes, (3 players and one ekstra).

    One team with intellectual disabilities athletes and one team with mobility impaired athletes.

  • Boxing is at the moment put on the back burner due to few athletes in the age-group 15–25 years.

    An effective collaboration is in place within boxing between the countries in the Barents region, which has produced some fantastic results both nationally and internationally. In the Barents Games both boys and girls compete in several different weight categories.

    Age Group: 15-25 years. Older athletes can compete, but pay self.

    Team structure: 12 athletes (7 men, 5 women), 3 coaches and 2 referees.

    Classes:

    • Junior Men (15-16 years)

    • Youth Men (17-18 years)

    • Elite Men (19-40 years)

    • Junior Women (15-16 years)

    • Youth Women (17-18 years)

    • Elite Women (19-40 years)

    Weight class depends on available athletes.

Also Parasport

  • Bowling is one of the sports were we also facilitate for Parasport athletes.

    In Bowling the countries have come together over many years to both compete and train together. This has led to the level of bowling in the Barents region being high and the activity is becoming increasingly popular.

    Age Group: 15 – 25 years.

    Team structure: 12 athletes (6 boys / 6 girls), and 2 coaches.
    Older participants can be accepted.

    Classes: Team game: trio, mix double (M and F) and mix-team (2 M and 2 F).

    Parasport:
    Age group:
    over 15 years old.

    Team structure: 4 athletes (2 boys/2 girls), with companions and 1 coach.

    Classes: Intellectual disability athletes.

  • Football is of course a major sport with many teams and participants.

    The football is well organised and players have for a long time realised the benefits of working across the east-west borders. In the Barents Games both boys and girls play in the same age categories – under 17 years.

    Age group: 17 and younger (17 that year)

    Team structure: 32 athletes (16 boys and 16 girls), 4 coaches and 2 leaders.

  • A classic Barents sport going back many years.

    Orienteering has long enjoyed an effective exchange between the countries and major international competitions have been organized together annually. The sport is continually developing and we will be seeing new events and initiatives to generate even more interest in orienteering.

    Age group: Boys and girls age 15-25 years old, No athletes under 15 will be accepted.

    Team structure: 18 athletes (9 men - 9 women), 2 coaches and 2 leaders

    Classes:
    15-16 years (2 men-2 women)
    17-18 years (2 men-2 women),
    19-20 years (2 men-2 women)
    21-25 years (3 men-3 women).

  • Volleyball has always maintained an extremely high international level in the Barents region, which is home to a number of major clubs.

    There has been a successful exchange with Russia, which has encouraged a steady growth in interest and level in the other countries.

    From 2024 Volleyball moved from Winter Games to Summer Gams also adding Beach Volleyball to our program.

    Age group: 16-20 years old.

    Team structure: 24 athletes (14 boys, 14 girls), 4 coaches and 1 leader. Of these athletes Boys and 4 Girls and 1 leader will play beach volleyball making 2 teams for boys and 2 teams for girls.

  • Borders have been crossed several times over the years during cycling events in the region.

    The Barents region has many active road cyclists and the sport is continuing to grow in popularity, largely due to the establishment of the Arctic Race of Norway, which has generated even more interest in the sport.

    Different competitions is suggested in Barents Games: short rollup 2 km – uphill, time trial 10-20 km, grouprace 90 km max.

    Age group: 15 - 23 years.

    Team structure: 20 athletes: 10 girls, 10 boys and 3 leaders

    Classes: Men and women 16 years, 18 years and under 23 years old

    Competition: Roadrace.

  • Golf is a relatively new sport in the Barents Cooperation, and the interest in the countries is growing.

    This is an exciting venture and the plan is for both boys and girls to play together in the Barents Games in a competition along the lines of the Ryder Cup.

    Age group: 15-21 years old. There can be exceptions if there is not enough athletes. If so, athletes from 22-25 can be accepted.

    Team structure: 8 athletes (4 boys and 4 girls), 1 coach and 1 leader.

  • Boys and girls compete in powerlifting in various weight categories and events.

    Age Group: 15-25 years old

    Team Structure: 5 athletes + 3 reserves, 1 coach, 1 leader and 1 referee.

    Category:
    • 1 subjunior (15-18 years old),
    • 2 juniors (19-23 years old),
    • 2 others (any age 15-25 years) – at least one lifter from each category of lifters

  • Tennis is a small sport in the Barents perspective but with solid traditions.

    Participants compete in both double and single matches. The contact between tennis has been established, and raining camps have been arranged after the first meeting in Bodø.

    Age group: 15-25 Years old.

    Team structure: 8 athletes (4 men and 4 women), 2 coaches and 1 leader.

    Classes: 2 boys and 2 girls (15-19 Junior), 2 men and 2 women (20-25 Senior).

New sport

  • Dancing is a new sport in the Barents Games.

    For the first time, this fantastic sport will compete in the disciplines Hip Hop and Breaking. The team structure and competition rules is under planning.

    We look forward to see dance in Barents Games.

    Proposed rules:

    Age group: 15 – 25 years (no athletes under 15 will be accepted)

    Team structure: 12 athletes (6 men and 6 women), 1 coach and 1 leader.

    Competition: Divided in two styles.

    1. Battle hiphop

    2. Battle breaking

    Both including showcase and preselection.

  • Judo participated for the first time in the Barents Games in Bodø 2018.

    All countries participated. After that, judo has really become one of the great sports in the games, with high quality and fantastic competitions

    Age group: 15-25 years old

    Team structure: 5 girls + 5 boys, one coach, one leader and two referees.

    20 – 25 years: -63 kg, -70 kg

    Men
    15 – 20 years: -60 kg, -66 kg, -73 kg

  • Shooting is an established Barents sport, with good contact between all countries and an effective exchange going back several decades.

    Boys and girls compete together in teams of six in the Barents Games. The athletes is between 15 – 25 years old, both boys and girls.

    Age group: 15 – 25 years.

    Team Structure: 12 atheletes (6 girls and 6 boys), 2 leaders and one referee. Older participants can be accepted, must pay self.

    1 para-athlete with one leader can be invited.

  • Track & Field is one of the cornerstones in the history of Barents Sports and has a long tradition as part of the region’s sporting exchange. Track & Field is also a Parasport in Barents Games.

    Track & Field has been an extremely active sport in Cap of the North sports for a long time.

    Age Group: 15 – 25 years

    Team structure: 44 athletes: 22 men, 22 women. 4 coaches and 4 leaders

    Events

    Running: 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, 5000 m,

    100 m hurdles, 110 m hurdles, 400 m hurdles, 4x100 m relay, 4x400 m relay.

    Jumping: Long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault.

    Throwing: Javelin, discus throw, shot put and hammer throw.

    Parasport

    Age Group: Over 15 Years old.

    Team structure: 2 boys and 2 girls (mixed if not possible), and leaders.

    Classes: Mental disabled athletes.

    Events:

    100m, 800m, long jump – standing, long jump – running, high jump, throwing: shot put or small ball.

  • Wrestling is one of the cornerstones in the history of Barents Sports. It has a long tradition as part of the region’s sporting exchange.

    Wrestling was one of the pioneering events in the people-to-people cooperation and buses have travelled miles transporting competitors across the Barents region. The four countries have excellent contact and have served as a model for how to «share the arctic spirit». In wrestling, both girls and boys compete in several different weight categories.

    Age Group: 15 – 25 years old

    Team structure: 16 athletes: 10 boys and 6 girls, 2 coaches, 1 leader and 2 referees

    Boys weight: 50, 55 (+1), 60, 63, 67, 72, 77, 82, 87 and 97 kg (+2).

    Girls weight: 50, 53 kg (+1) – 57, 62, 68 and 76 kg (+2)

    • Brance: greek roman for men and freestyle for ladies.
    • Competition form: Superbowl – (country competition).
    • We use the «Fyrstada model».
