The Countdown has begun: Its less than a year until Barents Winter Games 2025 in Alta

Finally Finnmark is arranging Barents Games! As the countdown to the Barents Winter Games (BWG) 2025 in Alta begins, excitement and anticipation fill the air. With less than a year remaining until the much-anticipated event, preparations are well underway to ensure a memorable and successful gathering of young athletes from across the Barents region. BWG is to be arranged from the 28th to 30th of March 2025.

Setting the stage for excellence
The goal of BWG25 is to elevate the standard of winter games by providing participants with a holistic experience that combines athletic competition, cultural immersion, and friendship. Led by the Barents Sports Committee Norway (BSCN) and Finnmark Idrettskrets (FIK), the organizing team is committed to delivering nothing short of "The best games ever."

Central to this objective is the creation of an inclusive and inspiring environment for young athletes, promoting cultural exchange, ensuring high-quality competitions, and putting Alta on the map as a premier destination for sports events.

- Alta is located at the intersection of the sea and Finnmarksvidda. This geographic area has, since the Stone Age, been a meeting place for several indigenous people groups. They have built their common history and future to master the rugged arctic environment.

Unveiling Alta: A fantastic and experienced host city

Originally planned for 2022, the BWG 2025 in Alta was postponed due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, with renewed vigor and determination, organizers are gearing up to host an unforgettable event that will showcase the best of winter sports and cultural exchange.

Alta's selection as the host city for BWG25 offers a unique opportunity to showcase its cultural richness, natural beauty, and world-class sports infrastructure. It is about time that Finnmark hosts Barents Games! By welcoming our participants and spectators, Alta aims to shine as a beacon of hospitality and excellence.

Through a packed scheduled with competitions, opening and closing ceremonies, and social events, BWG25 seeks to foster friendships among participants and leave a lasting and memorable impression on all who attend.

Building Bridges

Building Bridges: Youth engagement and collaboration
At the heart of BWG25 lies the belief in the power of sports to unite communities and remove borders. Through initiatives like the Young Leaders in Barents (YLIB) program, young athletes and leaders will come together to forge connections, share experiences, and shape the future of sports cooperation in the region.

Additionally, a guest program will provide opportunities for sports officials, policymakers, and local leaders to engage with one another, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
