Kajaani (or Kajana in Swedish) is the capital of Kainuu region in Finland. Kainuu is one of the three regions in Finland taking part in the Barents Games along with Pohjois-Pohjanmaa (Northern Ostrobothnia) and Lappi (Lappland).
Kajaani is the center of Kainuu and has about 37 000 inhabitants. By road is it 558 kilometres north-northwest of Helsinki, 170 kilometres north of Kuopio, and 182 kilometres southeast of Oulu.
