Wintersports

  • Alpine is a new sport in Barents Games and was organized for the first time in Luleå 2018.

    One competition with slalom/Grand slalom and this result will give the starting list for a competition with parallel slalom.

    Age Group: 15 – 25 years

    Team structure: 8 boys, 8 girls, 2 leaders.

    Classes: Boys and girls 17-18 years, 19-21 years.

    Discipline: Slalom

  • There is a strong tradition of basketball in the countries and the exchange has been rewarding.

    This has produced sportsmen and women at the highest national and international level. East-west cooperation within basketball has long been a huge inspiration and a model for other sports, particularly when it comes to exchanges at club level.

    Age group: 16 years (that year), and younger.

    Team structure: 24 Athletes. 12 boys, 12 girls, 4 coaches, 2 leaders and 2 referees from each country.

    Competition: Full-time (4x10 minutes effective time) games (15 min halftime, 2,5 min betv. quarter).

    Double or trippel series.

  • There is a long tradition of gymnastics in all four countries and the sport has always enjoyed a close association with people-to-people cooperation, particularly since it has strong links to culture and performance.

    In Barents Sports, the strong links between the countries and the sporting exchange between participants are increasing all the time.

    Age Group: 15-25 years old that year)

    Team structure: 10 athletes (5girls, 5 boys), 4 Coaches, 1 leader and 4 referees.

    Classes: MAG/WAG and mix

    The competition rules are going to be the FIG Code of Points JUNIOR rules.

  • Biathlon has a long tradition with Barents cooperation, and there is good contact between the countries.

    Age Group: 15-22 years old.

    Team structure: 20 athletes. 10 girls, 10 boys and 6 leaders.

    Classes:

    16-17 years old.

    18-19 years old.

    20-22 years old.

    (Can be 23-25)

    Competition:

    Day 1: Sprint (10 km, 10 shots prone and 10 shots standing)

    Day 2: mass start (from 6-12,5 km (10 prone, 10 prone, 10 standing, 10 standing).

  • Floorball was a new sport in Barents Sports 2018, but there is already good contact between the countries.

    The future looks promising and there are several initiatives underway to encourage a growing exchange. It is one of the sports that is seeing the most rapid growth.

    Age Group: 15-16 Years old (that year).

    Team Structure: 30 athletes. 15 boys and 15 girls, 2 coaches and 2 leaders.

    Norwegian team gets exception from the age-limit to play with up to 5 players 17 years old (that year).

    Competition: Matchtime: 3x20 minutes effective time pr game.

  • Ice hockey is a new sport in Barents Sports but there is already good contact between the countries.

    The future looks promising and there are several initiatives underway to encourage a growing exchange between the countries. Ice hockey is relatively new in Norway and in true Barents spirit they are therefore allowed to enter slightly older competitors.

    Age Group: 15 years old (born that year).

    Team structure: 34 athletes. 17 boys + 17 girls, 2 coaches and 2 leaders.

  • Badminton has a long tradition in the cooperation. Both boys and girls play, and all countries usually participate.

    Age group: 15-25 yers old

    Team structure: 12 athletes. 6 boys, 6 girls and 3 leaders.

    Classes: U17, U19, seniors (19-25 years). 2 boys and 2 girls from each category.

Parasport

  • Curling on carpet was developed in Sweden in 1993.

    Our first Carpet Curling competition was also held in Sweden for the first time, in Luleå Barents Winter Games 2018. Now it is a fully integrated sport in the Barents Winter Games, with high quality and fantastic para-athletes.

    Age Group: 15 years and older.

    Team structure: 6 athletes (4+2), 2 coaches, leaders and 3 referees.

    Classes: Two mixed teams with intellectual impaired athletes.

    If the countries have visible- or mobility impaired athletes, they are also invited.

  • Futsal is a quite new sport in all countries, but the sport is growing.

    Age group: 16 – 19 years (That year)

    Team structure: 24 athletes. 12 girls, 12 boys, 4 coaches, 2 leaders and 2 referees.

    Competition: 2x20 min

    We follow the international rules for Futsal.

  • Figure skating was a new sport in Barents Games from 2018.

    There is a big difference between the countries, but hopefully Barents Games will motivate more athletes to go on for a longer time, and also motivate leaders to help building new ice-arenas.

    Age group: 15-25 years

    Team structure: 12 athletes (girls), 2 coaches, 1 leader and 2 judges/referees.

    • Up to four 4 boys (when applicable).

    Competiton: We follow the rules decided by the International Skating Union (ISU) which are new every season.

  • This branch of gymnastics is new and was organized in Barents Summer Games in Bodø 2017 for the first time.

    Age group: 15-25 years old.

    Team structure: 20 athletes. 10 girls, 10 boys, 2 coaches, 1 leader and 2 judges.

    Classes: Boys, Girls and Mix.

    Tumbling, floor and trampet.

    Selection: Code of Points for juniors.

Also Parasport

  • Cross-country skiing has a long tradition in the north, and in Barents sports. There has been competition between the countries for several decades, and there is still good exchange between the countries.

    Cross-country skiing is also a para-discipline in the Barents Winter Games

    Age group: 15 to 20 years old

    Team structure: 30 athlets. 15 boys, 15 girls, one coach and 5 leaders.

    Classes:

    Individual skiing, style-free

    15-16 years(5km)

    17-18 years(7,5km)

    19-20 years(10km)

    Mass start, style-free

    Parasport:

    Age group: 15 years and older.

    Team structure: 2 girls and 2 boys intellectual impaired athletes, and leaders.

    Classes: 2 km classic and 2 km freestyle.

  • Swimming is an established Barents sport, with a long tradition and good contact between all four countries.

    There has been an effective exchange in place within swimming for many years on several levels.

    Swimming also includes para-atheletes.

    Age group: Boys and girls 15-25 years.

    Team structure: 24 athletes. 12 boys, 12 girls, 2 coaches, 2 leaders and 2 referees.

    Parasport:

    Age group: 15 years and older.

    Team structure: 8 athletes and up to 8 leaders.

    2 girls and 2 boys mobility and visual impaired athletes, S1-S13.

    2 girls and 2 boys intellectual impaired athletes, S14.

  • Ski orienteering was organized for the first time in Murmansk 2016. Ski orienteering is a fantastic sport, which maintains a high level in the north.

    Age Group: Boys and girls 17-25 years old.

    Team structure: 12 athletes (6 boys, 6 girls), 2 coaches.

    Classes:

    17-18 years (2 men-2 women)

    19-20 years (2 men-2 women)

    21- 25 years (2 men-2 women)

    The competition forms for orienteering is long distance and middle distance or sprint.

Also Parasport

  • Table tennis is a new sport in Barents Sports. It is seeing a rise in popularity and there are many initiatives to promote the sport in the Barents region. Table tennis is established in all countries and is one of the sports were we will facilitate for Parasport athletes.

    Age group: 15 – 18 years old (no athletes under 15 will be accepted)

    Team structure: 6 athletes. 3 boys, 3 girls and 2 leaders

    Parasport:

    Age Group: Over 15 years old.

    Team structure: 2 athletes and 1 leader.

    Classes: 1 sitting and 1 standing or 2 standing.
