Info to all partisipants in Barents Summer Games 2024

Welcome to Finland, welcome to Kemi and Tornio.

We are looking forward to experience Barents Summer Games 2024 together with you.

Barents Summer Games is a sport festival comprising different sports. The event is arranged from 23rd to 25th of August 2024.

The games are an arena for both sporting and cultural exchange and makes cooperation between the countries in the Barents region possible. Barents Sports is a joint project between Norway, Sweden and Finland for youth between 15- 25 years.

13 different sports are participating in this year’s big event, and more than 800 participants from the three countries are coming.

FRAMEWORK FOR THE EVENT:

Friday August 23rd
15:00-17:00 Registration at the six different hotels
17:00-19:00 Dinner at the hotel
20:00-21:30 The Opening Ceremony / Kemi Arena (Meripuistokatu 28, 94100 Kemi)

Saturday August 24th
09:00-16:00 Competitions
17:00-19:00 Dinner at the hotel
20:00-22:00 Get Together – event / Lappari Activity Park Lappari Activity Park – Experience Factory Lappari

Sunday August 25th
09:00-14:00 Competitions
14:00-15:00 Back home Each sport has its own schedule.

COMPETITION REGISTRATION:

Our staff will welcome you at six different hotels, which are:

  • Scandic Kemi, Kemi, (Address: Hahtisaarenkatu 3, 94100 Kemi)

  • Hotel Merihovi, Kemi (Address: Keskuspuistokatu 6-8, 94100 Kemi)

  • Hotel Yöpuu, Kemi (Etela ntie 227, 94700 Kemi)

  • Park Hotel Tornio, Tornio (Ita ranta 4, 95400 Tornio)

  • Hotel Joentalo, Tornio (Kivirannantie 15, 95410 Tornio)

Please provide the final details of your team, and at the same time, you will receive a gift pack.

Competition registration will be done through the team leaders. Team leaders will distribute the gift bags to their respective teams.


PROGRAM

OPENING CEREMONY:
Arranged on Kemi Arena on Friday, August 23rd at 20:00-21:30. Doors will open at 19:40.

Transportation:
Those staying in Tornio:
Shared transportation will depart from the parking lot in front of Park Hotel in Tornio at 19:15.
From Hotel Joentalo bus will depart from at 19:15.
Buses will depart back to Tornio after the Opening Ceremony at 21:30 from in front of Kemi Arena.


GET TOGETHER:  
Arranged in Lappari Activity Park on Saturday, August 24th from 20:00-22:00.

Transportation:
Those staying in Kemi:
Departure from the Kemi S-Market parking lot at 19:30.

The program includes free hanging out, competitions & raffles, and presentation booths.


EVENT PASS:
Athletes must have their event pass with them throughout the entire event.

The event pass serves as an access card for the Opening Ceremony, restaurants, and Get Together –event. Entry is not permitted without the event pass. This must be followed for safety reasons. The event pass will be distributed during the competition registration.


STREAMING:

Some sports will be live-streamed during the competition weekend. The link to the stream will be shared on the Barents Games website.


SAFETY

  • Pack with you: your personal sports snacks and drinks, personal medications, and sport[1]specific equipment.

  • Participants should arrive completely healthy, and any absences should be reported with minimal barriers. Report absences directly to your team leaders.

  • Check the coverage and validity of your travel insurance with your insurance company.

  • Ensure that your athlete license/competition or game pass is valid with your sport federation (SWE, NOR, FIN) .

  • Citizens of the Nordic countries, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland, have a passport exemption. This means that citizens of the Nordic countries can travel and reside in the Nordic countries without travel documents. However, if you are traveling as a Nordic citizen without a passport or ID card, you must be able to prove your identity. We recommend that those departing for the competitions carry a valid passport or another official form of identification.

  • In the Barents Summer Games, each sport is responsible for the safety of its own competition event.
