Changes in sports

We have had several good meetings with the various sports, which have resulted in some changes.

After meetings and dialogue with the sports, we have come up with changes in some sports. Table tennis and volleyball have changed which games they will participate in. Other sports have been granted more athletes. We have also added Beach Volleyball to our family. We have had good conversations about para sports, and we have opened up the possibility for the sports to invite para athletes to join their teams.

Table Tennis

Table tennis has gone from the Summer Games to the Winter Games. This is because it will be more appropriate considering the season they are in.

Volleyball

Volleyball has been moved from the Winter Games to the Summer Games. We have done this to open up Beach Volleyball.

We have increased participation from 10 to 14 participants, where 10 will play volleyball and 4 will play beach volleyball.

We are really looking forward to having fantastic matches in volleyball also in the sand!

Track Field

Track & Field

We have decided to increase the number of participants in Track & Field from 32 athletes to 44 athletes. Track & Field is being professionalized, and there are more branches in the sport now than before. This means that in order for the competitions to be good, we want to have enough athletes. Track & Field will then be the largest sport in the Barents Games.

Speed skating

Speedskating has unfortunately seen us forced to take the program off the Barents Games.

The sport does not have enough athletes in the region, and has not participated in the Barents Games for many years.

We will of course keep the door open for this wonderful traditional sport should the status change.

These are the biggest changes we've made. Some small changes have also been made to participants in individual sports.
