Finally, we can "shout out" that the next Barents Winter Games will be held in Bodø and Narvik – Norway 31st of March - 2nd of April 2023!
It has been far too long since we have organized Barents Winter Games, not since Luleå in 2018, and we are really looking forward to this.
Because of the pandemic and now because of the war Russia is waging against Ukraine, there have been challenging and unpredictable years in Barents sport. Russia is, as you all know banned from all sports, and that has a big impact on the Barents cooperation.
It is therefore with great pleasure that we will get to arrange Barents Winter Games again, and at record speed.
We have divided the sports between the towns of Bodø and Narvik so that we have an offer for all the winter sports. The cities have been quick to say yes despite the short time to plan. There is no doubt that this will be the Barents Games of all time, for the positivity the clubs has shown is amazing.
It will be different when Barents Games will be in two cities, but we will learn a lot, and it provides future opportunities for follow-up.
The sports that will be in Bodø are:
- Carpet curling (Para sport)
- Artistic Gymnastics
- Cross-country skiing (Also Para-athletics)
- Ski orienteering
The sports that will be in Narvik are:
- Ice hockey
- Figure skating
- Swimming (also para sports)
Potentially, there are 1,100 participants who will take part, as well as guests, young leaders, and local organizers.
We will now work purposefully towards the event and look forward to showing Bodø and Narvik at their best. The home pages will be updated continuously, so follow us on Barentssports.com, Barents Games on facebook and Barents_Games on Instagram.
See you at the Barents Winter Games 2023.
